WE 4311, 7000 - Wind Energy Law and Regulatory Issues
The laws and regulations applicable to energy have a rich past and are rapidly developing, and the understanding of these laws is very important to wind energy professionals. The objective of this course is to give students an in-depth understanding of the law and economic regulation of energy markets in general, and as it relates to the development of wind projects in particular. The principles taught in this class involve energy regulation, public utilities, wholesale electricity competition, issues in greenhouse gas governance, and law related to large-scale development of wind energy that involves such issues as wind leases, severance of wind rights from the surface estate, aesthetic values, nuisance, market power, antitrust, and other issues facing the wind industry.
